Daydreaming

People yawn and say they are night owls.

I am not a night owl.

I am a girl, listening to the heavy silence as it weighs on my ears past bedtime.

My thoughts are not in my head.

They fill the room, dancing swirling in a silent celebration of every time I’ve let my mind wander past what is not quite reality.

And it kills me to fall asleep

Because my nightly dreams are never quite as splendid as the ones I have when I’m awake.
